Staying Hydrated in Warmer Weather

It’s that time again…warm temperatures and lots of sunshine. Staying hydrated is very important for healthy aging and remaining cool. Here are some tips to help “keep your cool” during the hot summer months!

How to keep your cool during the hot days of summer!

  • Stay out of direct sunlight and avoid strenuous activity (especially between the hours of 11am-2pm) when the sun is at its peak.  If exercising, do so during the cooler morning hours.
  • Don’t forget your sunglasses!
  • Use products with a sun protective factor (SPF) of 15 or higher to block out the burning rays  of the sun.  Look for water-resistant products if you sweat or partake in water activities.
  • Drink water and other hydrating fluids throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty. *Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day and add an additional 1½ to 2½ cups of water when exercising.
