Meals on Wheels by ACC was formed back in 2010 when ACC Senior Services took
over Sacramento County’s senior nutrition program. The County wanted to discontinue
the program due to budgetary constraints. ACC stepped in and created a separate non-
profit, Meals on Wheels by ACC to ensure that the older adults who depended on meals
did not go hungry.
Recently, after much consideration, the Meals on Wheels Board of Directors approved a
new name and a new logo. We are now “Meals on Wheels – Sacramento County” and
we have adopted the national branding standards of Meals on Wheels America, with
navy blue, teal, and lime green colors. Gone is our little red truck. It’s been replaced
with a navy blue or teal truck.
We changed the name for a number of reasons:
1. To make it easier for everyone to know who we are (Meals on Wheels) and where we
serve (Sacramento County).
2. To avail ourselves of the power behind the positive name recognition that the national
brand has.
3. To modernize our look. After 14 years we’ve evolved to serve more than 1500 older adults through our home-delivered meal program, another 800 more who attend our 17 community cafes or 4 restaurant program partners. We have 40 staff and more than 300 volunteers. And we are still expanding!
We are very excited about the opportunities that the new name will open for us. We plan
to expand our donor base, encourage corporate sponsorship, and hold lively
fundraisers.
While our name and logo have changed, almost everything else remains the same:
Same phone number (916) 444-9533 and same website www.mowsac.org. Our mission
also has not changed, to serve nutritious meals with a friendly smile to seniors in
Sacramento County.
