Picture of Meals on Wheels Participant

Glen served as an airplane mechanic at McClellan Air Force Base before retiring.

He dedicated many years to volunteering with meal service at the Japanese United Methodist Church through the former Sacramento County Senior Elderly Nutrition Service. It was there that Glen found numerous friends who shared in his history of internment camps.

When the Sacramento County Nutrition Service ceased, Meals on Wheels by ACC took over operations at the church café site. Glen continued his volunteering efforts, both serving and receiving meals until the site had to close due to the pandemic in 2020. In response, Meals on Wheels implemented drive-through curbside pickup at various locations. Glen’s daughter signed up to collect his meals and deliver them to him. Appreciating the convenience, Glen expressed his satisfaction with the meal service, stating,

“I don’t have to cook as often! My favorite meal is the Teriyaki Chicken!”

Glen has weathered numerous storms throughout his life. One in particular has made an even further impact on his access to home cooked meals.  During this year’s winter rainstorms, a tree fell on his home, breaking through the roof. Currently, his home is still undergoing restoration, but Glen is eager to return once repairs are completed.

Glen turned 102 this year! When asked about the secret to his longevity, Glen attributed it to clean living and daily exercise. He stays active by cooking and tending to his garden daily, proudly proclaiming,

“I’m not a couch potato!”
