The Big Day of Giving (BDOG) is a 24-hour online giving challenge that aims to gather community support for non-profit organizations, such as Meals on Wheels, throughout the Sacramento region. It’s a fun event where we all come together to support causes we care about, making a collective impact on our community. A day of generosity, where every donation, regardless of the size, helps make a big difference.
During the BDOG event in 2023, we were able to raise about $87,912 from a total of 652 community members who believe in what we do! For us at Meals on Wheels Sacramento, the Big Day of Giving is an opportunity to raise critical funds to support our four programs: Home Delivered Meals, All Seasons Cafe Sites, the Restaurant Program and our AniMeals program.
Our main mission is to ensure we are serving nutritious meals with a friendly smile to seniors in Sacramento County. We are grateful for your participation and support, as it is crucial to our success. Every meal we provide is more than just a nutritious meal; it’s a chance to connect with seniors and foster trust through each interaction. For many seniors, our volunteers, staff members, and vendor partners may be the only social event of their day, or even of their entire week.
“ I don’t know what I would have done without you. You came at a time when things were really low. Truly a blessing…”

Our Ask for Big Day of Giving 2024:
As we celebrate our 14th year of service, we’re grateful for the support of our amazing and generous community. But, we need your help to continue making a difference. Please consider donating to Meals on Wheels Sacramento on the Big Day of Giving from April 18th to May 2nd, 2024.
Here’s why your donation matters:
-
-
-
- Nourishing Our Seniors: Your contributions not only help us continue to provide nutritious meals to our seniors but also provide meals from local vendors for a “farm-to-fork” experience.
- Impact the Local Economy: We collaborate with family-owned restaurants from North Highlands to Elk Grove. We partner with Brick House Restaurant, Drewski’s Pit Stop, Cafe Elk Grove, Brookside Restaurant and Bar and Sae Jong Tempura and Teriyaki. All of which have enabled us to provide fresh and delicious meals to our participants while supporting local businesses and the community.
- Foster Connection: Meals on Wheels prides itself in being more than just a meal, your donation helps us connect to seniors that may be experiencing isolation or loneliness. Your support helps bring smiles and companionship to those who need it most.
- Pet Support: Among our three distinct programs, we also have a volunteer driven program that helps provide donated pet food to our senior’s furry companions, called AniMeals program. As the elderly population is more susceptible to loneliness, having a pet has proven to significantly support their mental health. But, it was not uncommon for seniors to give their meals to their pets instead of themselves. With your support, we can ensure that both our beloved seniors and their pets are well-nourished and taken care of.
